We had our 36 week doctor visit today, and for the first time, we didn't get a perfect report. We don't think there is anything too seriously wrong, but we will be monitored very closely. They noted that the fluid in the placenta was measuring just shy of normal. I'll have to be careful to drink plenty of fluids especially with the high temps and humidity. Also, I am about 36 1/2 weeks along, but the baby is measuring 35 1/2 weeks. They said he weighs about 5.5 lbs. That isn't too troubling, but the baby's stomach is only measuring at 33 weeks. They will measure the baby again in 2 weeks to check his development. If he continues to measure small in the stomach, they will probably induce labor at that time. The OB said that sometimes an abnormal growth pattern is just baby's way of telling us he is ready to come out. The sonographer, who used to work for a high-risk OB, recommended that I eat more protein to help baby's growth catch up. Dallas, being the carnivore that he is, jumped right on that suggestion and started making plans for very high protein dinners! I'll do what I can to help this baby grow a "belly like Poppie's" over the next few weeks.
Baby wasn't much in the mood to pose for photographs today. Although in his defense, there isn't much room in his condo anymore! His little face was pressed up against the uterine wall, and he looked like he was smashing his face up against a glass door. I'll add the best pictures we got once Dallas gets them scanned.
On a positive note, the baby's movement is still very good. And, apparently, my cervix is beginning to soften. I don't really know what that means, but it needs to happen for this baby to arrive. According to the doctor, all we need now are the contractions. I will have weekly visits from now until the end.
The doctor agreed with me that July 10 is a great day to have a baby, but she didn't agree that it was the right day to have my baby! Oh well, I'm holding out hope!
