Austin's Ad-libs

After Dallas had MCL surgery, Austin developed sympathetic knee pains.  He was very certain that his knee had a boo boo.

During breakfast, Austin was sitting on the counter eating cereal.

M:  Austin, do you want me to put a towel on your lap so the cold milk doesn't get all over you.

A:  No.  I need the cold milk on my knee to help my boo boo feel better.

Austin's Ad-libs

A:  I'm going to grow bigger and longer so I'll be able to reach tall things because I'll be longer (stretching arms and legs in front of him as if they were stretching before our eyes).  And I'll be able to reach and taller and stuff and TREES.  And I'll be bigger to reach tall things.

M:  But what if you get so big and tall that you don't fit in my lap?  How will I read you stories?

A:  (Thinking....)  (Puts his hand on top of his head and presses down)  Then you'll have to smoosh me and smoosh me until I'm little again.  (He jumps in my lap and presses my hands down on his head.)  Smoosh me, Mommy.

M:  Now you are a perfect fit.  Let's read your book.

Austin's Ad-libs

Austin was trying to wear Mommie's shoes, which were too big.

A:  Can you get me longer socks that fit these shoes?

Little Monkey

 When Mommy was organizing my baby clothes to put on Craigslist, I helped.  I found a monkey costume that Mommy said I wore for Halloween when I was 1 year old.  I must have liked it when I was 1 because I really like it now.  Mommy keeps saying it is too hot (at 80+ degrees) for me to wear my monkey suit, but I don't mind.  I even ate an entire banana in about 3 bites just like a real monkey would.  Gotta go...Daddy needs to help me climb a tree.

Austin's Ad-libs

A:  Mommy, make my boo boo go away.

M:  I can't make it go away, sweetie.  It just takes time.

A:  Time will make it go away?

M:  Yes.

The next morning...

A:  My boo boo is still here.  The clock needs to take it away.

Austin's Ad-libs

Austin went back to school today for the first time in nearly a week.  Apparently, he needed a little reassurance when I picked him up.

A:  Mommy!  I thought Daddy was picking me up.
M:  Will Mommy do?
A:  Yes.
A:  (cradles my face between his hands and turns me to look at him)  Mommy, do you like me?
M:  I love you!
A:  Mommy, do you think I'm very great?
M:  I think you are very, very great!

Austin's Ad-libs

Funny things Austin has been overheard saying:

A: (runs into the kitchen and exclaims) Don't be ridikalous!

A: (playing with a toy) You've got to be kidding me!

M:  Austin, do you know what we are going to do?
A:  YES!
M:  What are we going to do?
A:  I don't know.
(this conversation takes place with a variety of questions.  Do you know what we are going to eat?  Do you know what I'm thinking?  Do you know where we are going?)

A:  I want to go upside down again.
D:  Daddy's old.
A:  You're not old.
D:  I.  LOVE.  YOU.

(as if we questioned that)

A:  You watch it.  I'm don't like that magic stuff.
(even funnier because we have no idea where he got this)


A:  Tick Tock (the croc), do you want to come over here and see the most perfect animals?
(takes the croc to his animal box to show off)

A:  Do you want a little bit?
M:  No, I want too much.
A:  You can eat a little bit first.  And then you can get some more.

A:  There are lots of leaves.  There are 75 leaves.
(now where does a 2 year old come up with a number like 75?)
