The Clouds Parted and the Angels Started Singing...
Because Austin slept 4 1/2 hours last night! Was it the extra milk from the bottle? Was it that he is getting older? Was it (as my doctor predicted) that he has gotten to the 10-12 lb point? WHO CARES??? He slept 4 1/2 hours. And I slept about 3 of those hours.
No, I didn't sleep less than Austin because I was worried about him breathing or being okay. I knew he was breathing because this child is the loudest sleeper I've ever heard. Seriously. He snorts, moans, whines, grunts, coos, gurgles, cries and more. Whoever coined the phrase "sleeping like a baby" had never listened to a baby sleep! This weekend I'll be moving Austin's sleeping quarters into the nursery. Maybe the next time he sleeps more than 2 hours, we will both be able to sleep!

Has it really been a month???
I really don't know where the last month of our lives has gone. To my sleep deprived brain, it doesn't seem possible that I posted that I was having labor pains over a month ago. I'll do my best to post all the interim information - much of which Dallas sent out via email - and pictures as time, sleep or lack thereof, and free hands allow. For now, precious Austin finally dropped off to sleep after a very rough night so I'm going to try to join him. Thank you for all your love and support. This is one amazing, wonderful, and scary journey. We have been so blessed.
Bottle Time
Dallas gave Austin his first bottle today. Austin has not exactly taken to the pacifier, so I wasn't sure how he would handle a bottle. Well, he figured it out in under 3 seconds flat. He didn't seem to mind how he was getting his milk as long as he was getting it!

Four Week Pediatrician Visit
Austin had a great visit at the pediatrician today. Our little porker is up to 9 lb 10 oz and is 21 inches long. He's gained most of that weight in his belly and face. I call him my little buddha baby! I'll try to post pics as soon as I have a few minutes with two free hands to get them off the camera.
Other big news this week is that I successfully cut the little man's fingernails without cutting off half his fingers. I'm celebrating every little victory.

Baby Zoo
We ventured out as a family for the first time to a non-obligatory event. Some of our friends recently moved into a new house and had a pool party on Sunday. We missed the pool part, but managed to get all of us out of the house and to Mike and Melissa's before dinner was over. I wasn't sure it was a good idea even as we were driving out to the house with Austin fussing in his carseat. It ended up being a great idea. I felt like an adult for the first time since he was born, and I realized that it is possible take Austin to places that don't involve doctor's visits.
After screaming for a few miles on the drive out, Austin fell asleep in his carseat. He didn't wake up when we got there, so Dallas propped him up on some boxes inside the sliding glass door to the patio where everyone was eating. He stayed asleep for over two hours and all our friends had to be content with going to the glass door to stare at him. It was like he was the newest exhibit at the zoo.

Crocodile Tears
This week I noticed that Autin's eyelashes are really beginning to grow and get long. I also noticed after picking him up from a fit he was throwing that his tear ducts are beginning to work. Sad eyes, long eyelashes, and now tears??? How is my heart supposed to stay intact with that trifecta? It just isn't fair. Tears make everything seem so much more tragic.
