First Trimester Update

We got great results from the 1st trimester screening and ultrasound! Based on the results of the ultrasound and bloodwork, everything is normal and there are no risk indicators for Downs Syndrome or heart defects.

Baby is right on target at 2.6 inches long with a heartbeat around 150. She is already super active with a little bit of an attitude! During the ultrasound, she was kicking her legs, waving her fingers, and turning over. Her favorite activities appear to be head butting the womb and sticking out her tongue. It was all pretty amazing! And for those of you paying attention...I'm still using the term "she" without confirmation. 12 weeks is too soon to distinguish the difference between girl and boy parts. We won't know the sex until 20 weeks.

The doctor took the last picture with Baby upside down. He commented that it looked like the baby was praying. I told him it was never too soon to start!

Baby's 2.6 inches have made a much bigger difference in the size and shape of mom. Because I can't hide my tummy or myself from friends any longer, we will be announcing the news this weekend.

Welcome to "OurLittleDrama"

Welcome to our new blog. As baby (and mama) continue to grow, it became obvious to me that I needed a way to share all our special moments with family and close friends that was more flexible than email. I wanted to be able to share written updates and anecdotes as well as the hundreds of pictures we will take. And I wanted it to be easy for folks, a one stop shop. Email, Shutterfly, and Facebook all had shortcomings. A blog seemed to be the answer.

Dallas and his ever creative imagination came up with the name of our blog DRAMA, or Dialectic Ruminations on “Advanced Maternal Age.” It took him about 3 minutes. Maybe I’ll explain in more detail in another post, but in short, the doctors were all very quick at mentioning the risks involved in pregnancy at my age. They even have a term for it, Advanced Maternal Age. I believe my AMA makes this baby an even bigger blessing. No one (us included) expected us to decide to have a baby, especially at my age!

This is a work in progress (pun intended). The look, feel, and functionality of our space may change a little or a lot as I learn about this thing called blogging. Posts may be long or short, frequent or weeks apart as we learn about this thing called parenting.

We are so blessed, especially now, to have your support, prayers, and love. I hope you enjoy “OurLittleDrama” as much as I enjoy sharing it with you. We love you all.
